One of the many popular DJs featured on producer Henry "Junjo" Lawes' Volcano label -- along with the likes of Charlie Chaplin and Josey Wales -- Ranking Toyan made his splash in the early '80s, recording several albums for labels like Greensleeves, VP, and others. Toyan may not have always hit the heights of Wales or Chaplin, but he did light up many a sound-system dance and made a decent to excellent showing on vinyl. After essential titles How the West Was Won and Spar With Me, Toyan qualifies as a non-crucial but still solid mix of mic musings. And considering the presence of the Roots Radics band and Channel One's Ernest Hookim and Scientist at the mixing board, the going couldn't be less than heavy.
