A year and a half after Soraya burst onto the Latin music scene with her hit-laden debut, En Esta Noche, and its chart-topping single, "De Repente," she returned with Torre de Marfil, an album that failed to live up to the expectations brought about by the massive success of its predecessor. While not nearly as successful commercially, Torre de Marfil does include some strong material, most notably "París, Calí, Milán" and "Lejos de Aquí" -- the former a lively, uptempo number, the latter a touching ballad. The album's title track (co-written by Carole King) isn't quite as strong, but it too is a noteworthy inclusion here on this hit-and-miss effort that, unfortunately, is a disappointment relative to the excellence of its predecessor, En Esta Noche, even if it is still worthwhile.
