AllMusic Review by

After years in Chicago singing commercial jingles, former Ray Anthony Orchestra vocalist Dick Noel briefly resurfaced in 1978 with the stellar if little-heard comeback effort, A Time for Love, which he produced and privately released in collaboration with pianist Larry Novak. Reissued on CD in 2008 as part of the Sinatra Society of Japan's One Shot Wonders series, the album delivers everything Mel Tormé's breathlessly enthusiastic liner notes promise and more -- backed solely by Novak's spacious, sympathetic piano, Noel conjures autumnal renditions of ballads like "Send in the Clowns" and "Here's That Rainy Day," interpreting the familiar lyrics with the controlled emotion and world-weary sophistication of a man who's seen it all...and then some.
