Similar to its sister release, Throwback Soul, Throwback Funk includes hits from Lakeside, Cameo, the Ohio Players, and Con Funk Shun. (George Clinton and Dazz Band also appear here.) Throwback Soul's negative aspects are echoed; at ten songs, the disc is skimpy, and inferior single edits are often favored over the lengthier album versions. So it's not that the songs themselves are holding the whole thing back. Most have held up well throughout the years. It also boils down to the fact that there are too many of these cheap things floating around. If you want a better funk compilation, go with one that has more to offer -- one that has more songs, and one that doesn't look like it took ten minutes to put together.
