There is no generation gap between the musicians on this British LP. Trumpeter Bill Coleman was a veteran of the early part of the swing era, and the ten selections are very much in that genre. In addition to three competent French musicians (trombonist Francois Guin, pianist Michael Garrett and bassist Jean-Francois Catiore), hard bop drummer Art Taylor fits in quite well. Garrett is showcased on a pair of trio numbers ("Stairway to the Stars" and "How High the Moon"); otherwise, this album is most notable for Coleman's lyrical and relaxed yet swinging solos.
