This Tyrant Is Free Review

by David Serra

This Tyrant Is Free is a 2003 demo by A. Graham (aka Andy Graham); it was released locally in Kansas City and has now been remixed, remastered, and released with bonus tracks by Sonic Unyon. The album opens with "Glorious," a full-choir anthem that puts what seems like a positive blessing on the rest of the record -- leaving one to learn down the road that A. Graham & the Moment Band's initially confident outlook is more of a self-assuring front for Graham's wavering lyrics during the remainder of This Tyrant Is Free. A. Graham & the Moment Band draw from the best of the '90s indie scene, most notably Pavement -- catchy pop with noisy guitar hooks and the occasional alt-country vibe, as with the lap steel solos of "Glorious" and "Blurred Back." This Tyrant Is Free is a decent debut by A. Graham & the Moment Band.
