Morgana King has long been a worthy jazz-influenced vocalist with good timing, a fine delivery and capable all-around skills. Although King doesn't have the range or power she used to have, she has the experience and subtlety to find fresh ways of approaching shopworn standards. She wisely doesn't oversing or extend, making the points quickly and singing with precision and concise clarity. Even on the longer tunes, she paces expertly and doesn't linger in uncomfortable registers. Her backing group includes steady musicians who don't rush or impede her vocals, and the absence of horns and brass ensures that she stays in the spotlight. This is restrained, entertaining vocal fare.
