AllMusic Review by

Despite its seemingly earnest title, This Color Is Bittersweet is a completely and intentionally amateurish endeavor; the album spends a good deal of time on sloppy, lo-fi, and purposefully unemotive acoustic songs (which strive for an idiot-savant quality they never achieve). These endeavors are spread out between much cleaner, more focused, and far more effective tunes composed with bassy, ringing electric guitar. The bedroom quality of many tracks tends to be more obnoxious than charming, meaning most of the album's value lies in the slightly more polished work; this work is decent, in the end, but it doesn't exactly call for widespread adulation.
