Third Rail is Railroad Jerk's tightest, most song-oriented effort to date. Though the group's ability to write a gritty, memorable hook has increased, the band has developed a tough, bluesy sound and unlike Jon Spencer, they rarely sound like they're smirking at the entire genre. On occasion, Third Rail veers off the tracks slightly, but much of the album rocks harder and better than any of their previous records.
