There's no doubt that the Fastbacks are one of the most overlooked bands ever. Even when their hometown of Seattle was flooded with A&R reps during the early-'90s grunge boom, they never received national press for influencing all the bands that flooded Top 40 radio. For that reason alone, no one in this band should ever have to work a part time job in order to support themselves. However, this single doesn't do the Fastbacks any justice. Instead of the charismatic power pop-punk that these girls -- and guy -- have been know for since the early '80s, everything is slowed down on both "They Don't Care" and "Out of the Charts" -- even to the point of spending most of side A guitar jamming after a lengthy drum solo. Their 1994 full-length Answer the Phone, Dummy is a much better representation than this 7".
