AllMusic Review by

Living Era's They Called It Crooning collects romantic, lighthearted pop tunes from some of the top vocalists from the late '20s and '30s, including Pat O'Malley, Harry Richman, Seger Ellis, and Chick Bullock. Bing Crosby's "Where the Blue of the Night (Meets the Gold of Day)" begins the album, and Jack Smith's "She's a New Kind of Old Fashioned," Cliff Edwards' "Orange Blossom Time," and Smith Ballew's "Am I Blue" are among the album's other highlights, along with "Ain't Misbehavin,'" "Got a Date with an Angel," and "The Thrill Is Gone."
