As implied by the title, this LP consists entirely of versions of Scott Joplin's "Maple Leaf Rag," 15 in all. Although it would have been preferable to hear these performances in chronological order, the piano solos (Jelly Roll Morton, Willie "The Lion" Smith, James P. Johnson, Eubie Blake, Willie Eckstein, Hank Duncan, Paul Lingle and Don Ewell) and band performances (Vess Ossman, W.C. Handy, Sidney Bechet, Earl Hines, Tommy Dorsey and Ralph Sutton), because they are mostly jazz rather than ragtime, contain more variations and variety than one would think. This LP is an interesting novelty.
