AllMusic Review by

This two-LP set features Art Blakey's all-star sextet of 1962-1964 (trumpeter Freddie Hubbard, trombonist Curtis Fuller, tenor saxpohonist Wayne Shorter, pianist Cedar Walton, and bassist Reggie Workman) in music taken from three albums. The full LP Ugetsu, parts of Caravan and Kyoto, and a previously unissued version of "Thermo" comprise the strong program. Although not recommended to everyone, this high-quality hard bop is well worth hearing, and it is significant that all of Blakey's sidemen in this particular unit became important bandleaders themselves later in the decade.
