This compilation combines tracks previously released on two earlier Collectables Records reissues, Live at Birdland: 1957 and Swingin'. The live recordings from the former disc were cut at a club called Birdland in Seattle, WA, not the better-known one in New York City. The studio recordings from the latter disc were also recorded in Seattle around the start of 1958. Among them was the title song, which leads off this album and was one of McNeely's biggest hits. Singer Little Sonny Warner gives a gruff, soulful treatment to the vocal numbers, but the music is dominated by McNeely's big baritone sax sound in songs that range from R&B to jump blues. The sound quality is sometimes less than ideal, but the fervor of the performances overcomes that shortcoming.
