AllMusic Review by

The debut from Australia’s Karnivool introduces a band that mixes elements of progressive, post-grunge, and classic metal for a sonic experience that’s heavy and atmospheric at the same time. In the vein of bands like Tool and Mudvayne, Karnivool has a penchant for tricky time signatures and brooding, trance-like progressions, yet a saving knack for melody still keeps things accessible. As tunes like “Shutterspeed” and “Scarabs” prove, Karnivool can blend the best of both worlds, bridging thinking man’s metal with singalong thrash.
