Their All-Time Greatest Hits Review

by Scott Yanow

At the time this three-LP set was released, it was quite definitive. Although the amount of music is brief (just half an hour of playing time on each LP), every one of the Les Paul-Mary Ford hits (and most of the ones that only featured the guitarist) are included. The Capitol singles discography on the back cover is also quite valuable, although the actual liner notes are rather brief. Highlights include "Lover," "The World Is Waiting for the Sunrise," "Whispering," "Tiger Rag," "Vaya Con Dios," and, of course, "How High the Moon." This colorful set has been completely superseded by the four-CD box The Legend & the Legacy put out by Capitol in 1991 (which contains all 30 numbers, plus many more), but it is still worth picking up if found at a budget price.
