AllMusic Review by

With their cool, keyboard-dominated arrangements and artful songwriting, the Zombies stood out from the pack during the peak years of the British Invasion, which may have something to do with why the group's biggest American hit came after they broke up. "Time of the Season," from their final album, Odessey and Oracle, belated rose to number three on the singles charts in 1969, a year after the bandmembers had parted ways and lead singer Colin Blunstone and keyboard player Rod Argent had moved on to new projects. The Zombies and Beyond is a 20-track collection that offers a look at what Argent and Blunstone were doing during and after their days in the Zombies. The set leads off with nine of the group's best and best-known songs, including "Time of the Season," "Tell Her No," "She's Not There," and "This Will Be Our Year." These songs are followed by five post-Zombies tracks from Blunstone, including collaborations with the Alan Parsons Project and with keyboardist Dave Stewart. Next are four songs from Rod Argent's group Argent, including the radio hits "Hold Your Head Up" and "God Gave Rock 'n' Roll to You." And finally, the set closes out with two Argent tracks with Blunstone guesting on vocals, "I Want to Fly" and "Southside of the Street."
