Designed to soundtrack the perfect workout, this three-disc UMTV compilation features 49 of the biggest commercial contemporary and retro club tunes that should motivate even the most reluctant of gym-goers. More carefully compiled than most cobbled-together exercise-themed collections, The Workout Mix 2011 is categorized into three different sections, with its Hi-NRG track list cleverly selected to complement the intensity of a planned workout. The first disc, Push It (Cardio Mix), features 16 feel-good anthems at the poppier end of the scale, such as Agnes' Euro-disco hit "Release Me," Enrique Iglesias' Lionel Richie-sampling party number "I Like It," and the Black Eyed Peas' ubiquitous "I Gotta Feeling," in an attempt to slowly but surely ease average fitness enthusiasts into their routines. The second disc, Burn It (Cardio Mix), cleverly ups the pace, with Dizzee Rascal's chaotic "Bonkers" and turbocharged remixes of Sugababes' "Easy," the Noisettes' "Don't Upset the Rhythm," and Girls Aloud's "Something Kinda Ooh" nestling alongside occasional ventures into happy hardcore territory from Benny Benassi ("Spaceship"), Skyla ("Ayo Technology"), and Northern Allstars ("Don't Stop Believin'") in an effort to match the most difficult and intense part of a workout. The third disc, Pump It (Tone & Stretch), however, starts with some last-gasp words of motivation (Salt-N-Pepa's "Push It," Bodyrockers' "I Like the Way") before winding down the proceedings with a clutch of blissful chillout tunes as a reward for all the hard work that's gone before, including I Monster's cover of Wallace Collection's "Daydream in Blue," Owl City's chart-topping "Fireflies," and Nina Simone's classic "Feeling Good." With club classics from Strike, Brothers in Rhythm, and Rozalla, and recent number ones from Rihanna, Cheryl Cole, and La Roux, The Workout Mix 2011 should provide enough pumping tunes for any dance music-loving gym fanatic.
