Folk/country deconstructionists Kyle Field and Whitney Moon pluck and warble through some haunting yet sweet and almost innocent acoustic cuts on The Wonder City, a fine installment in Little Wings' "Wonder" trilogy. Numbers like "Hey Baby" and "The Way I Do" stir up the intimate format the duo chose for this release, without relying on deathly excess or the silly, knowing glances that often riddle similar underground pop offerings. The Wonder City laments many emotional subjects without a hint of pretense or sentimental pandering, making the disc a perfect late-night listen for indie/alt-country fans hoping to release their worries with a tribute to life's most delicate charms. Listeners fond of artists steeped in a kind of psychic ultra-realism (think Vic Chesnutt without the drawl) should be on the lookout for this accomplished collection of songs from the talented Field.
