Claude Bolling's big band has been performing at some World War II anniversary tributes and it is this orchestra which performs a dozen 1940s favorites on this CD. The problem is that, other than Bolling and trumpeter Charles Martinez, none of the soloists are all that impressive and quite a few were expected to play note-for-note recreations of the original recorded solos. This then is essentially predictable dance music laced with nostalgia and falls far short of its potential.
