Following up on 2001's two-disc compilation titled The Very Best of This Is Acid Jazz: A 10 Year Celebration, this collection brings together another 24 slices of neo-jazz grooviness from America's best electronica label. Those who think that all acid jazz sounds the same would do well to give this set a listen: In fact, the beats and moods vary noticeably from one track to another, though the generally cool ambience that defines the genre remains fairly constant. Disc one offers a number of very fun selections, including Balanço's bossa nova-flavored "Cocktail con Laura" and a tasteful slice of jazzy drum'n'bass by Cosmorama called "Space Odyssey." Disc two features some of the funkier numbers, including the dense and slow "Dittonia Bloo" by 13th Sign and the James Brown-ish "Yellow Cab" by E.M. & I. Unfortunately, it also features Labeija's strangely unsexy "Ball of the X.T.C." and a boring percussion workout by Rhythm misleadingly titled "Message in the Music." Highly recommended, warts and all.
