The Very Best of Norman Connors covers 1975-1981, from 1975's "Valentine Love" (a Top Ten R&B ballad featuring Michael Henderson and Jean Carn) to 1981's "She's Gone" (slick boogie that deserved more commercial success). When it came to putting recording sessions together, Connors was at the peak of his power here, employing some of the era's most talented soul and jazz vocalists -- not just Henderson and Carn, but the likes of Phyllis Hyman (a giant), Prince Phillip Mitchell, and Glenn Jones -- as well as top-level musicians and songwriters. There are several undeniable classics, ranging from the stellar quiet storm ballad "You Are My Starship" to the torrid club hit "Once I've Been There."
