Vallee's career was bridged by the advent of radio as a major commercial medium, and the near-death and rebirth of the recording industry during the Great Depression (during which he was one of the very few recording stars whose records earned a profit). This compilation assembles all of his hits from the late '20s to the middle/late '30s, which were among the most heavily played bodies of music of their period. For those accustomed to vintage recordings of that era in fields like blues and jazz, the sound on these sides on this European CD will prove astonishingly good -- that's because Vallee was popular and well remembered enough throughout his post-hit career so that his masters were well taken care of.
