The 1950s was a golden era for independent record labels, and thousands of labels like Tip Top sprang up to release doo wop, early R&B, and rock & roll singles. Although Tip Top never managed any national hits, there are some cool tracks on the Tip Top Records Story collection, including "Bang Bang Shoot 'Em Daddy" by the Emblems and the tongue-in-cheek "I Got Fired" by the Mistakes, a sequel to the Silhouettes' huge hit (and enduring classic) "Get a Job."
