Many people consider Cobweb Strange to be a bit dark. Listening to the opening cut on this release, the quirky prog rock-dominated "Clarity's Advent," makes it clear that not all of the band's material is dark. Indeed, that track in particular is edgy, hard rocking at times, but not dark. It is a rather fun little excursion that really showcases much of the strength of this group. The elements that show up there, and on the rest of the album, are a musical virtuosity balanced with taste, creative and just a little off-kilter arrangements, and strong songwriting. This is a band that comes across as just a little rough around the edges (understandable on a first album, especially a self-produced first album), but one that shows strong promise for being a formidable force in progressive rock.
