Well, at least this release is up front about the material. This is yet another repackaging of the sessions Hendrix did with Curtis Knight, recorded while he was under contract to Track Records, and the reason Capitol ended up releasing the Band of Gypsys album. THIS IS NOT JIMI HENDRIX MUSIC. Yes, Jimi plays on it. Yes, it was recorded after his triumphant debut at the Monterey Pop Festival, but this is merely Jimi Hendrix revisiting his role as a versatile R&B guitarist. There is no amazing guitar playing or songs, just a bunch of old friends from the chitlin circuit woodshedding in a studio. The number of times this material has been released is mind-boggling, and this is one of a handful of such releases that seriously damaged Hendrix's stature in the years following his death. Unless you're a serious Hendrix completist, stay away from this one.
