The String Quartet Tribute to Santana Review

by Johnny Loftus

String Quartet Tribute to Santana combines classics like "Oye Como Va," "Evil Ways," and "Black Magic Woman" with material from Carlos Santana's late-'90s comeback ("Smooth," "Game of Love," "Maria Maria"). Besides the violins, violas, cellos, and bass that these string tributes normally feature, Tribute to Santana adds the occasional flourish of Latin-flavored percussion. While it's not spectacular, the set is well-played throughout, and offers new and old Santana fans a different take on the music of the iconic guitarist and his band.
