While the intention of having a string quartet tribute to Southern rock's most notorious and loved band seems a bit jarring in juxtaposition, the Vitamin string players do their best to make this session enjoyable. Tackling such demanding hits as "Saturday Night Special," "Sweet Home Alabama," and of course "Freebird" with reasonable ease, the quartet especially shines on "Tuesday's Gone" with a note-for-note rendition that's equally as sensitive as the original. For most Southern rock bands, this style of tribute may not work as well, but for Skynyrd, it works just fine and leaves the impression that regardless of who's playing, the band wrote some classics that translate well into almost any instrumental setting.
