The String Quartet Tribute to Jimmy Buffett Review

by Johnny Loftus

This string tribute to Jimmy Buffett recasts nine of the singer's best-known tracks as instrumentals for violin, viola, cello, and double bass. "Margaritaville" adds a little mandolin for a slight bluegrass lilt, but it's more fun to hear the strings emulate a Mariachi band. "Come Monday" is lazier than a Caribbean hammock salesman, "Jolly Mon Sing"'s melody shines through, and "Pencil Thin Moustache" retains the original's dusty jazz quality. String Quartet Tribute to Jimmy Buffett could've been a little longer, but it's still a solid entry in the long-running Vitamin series, particularly for fans who want to hear these Buffett classics in a different light.
