The String Quartet Tribute to Gwen Stefani Review

by Johnny Loftus

String Quartet Tribute to Gwen Stefani features Vitamin's usual setup of violin, viola, and cello interpreting music from the singer's solo debut L.A.M.B. It also includes No Doubt stuff like "Don't Speak" and "Underneath It All," but those were previously released on String Quartet Tribute to No Doubt. This time around, the draw is hearing ultra-slick L.A.M.B. singles like "What You Waiting For?," "Real Thing," and "Simple Kind of Life" redone as organically rich chamber pieces. Something besides Stefani's voice is lost in the translation -- while string tributes to pop songs have their moments, this one lacks that intangible spark. However, it'll still be an interesting listen for Stefani fanatics.
