AllMusic Review by

A collection of Charlie Parker's early bop tracks drawn from master takes recorded in 1945 and 1946 with the likes of Dizzy Gillespie (including classic versions of "Groovin' High," "Salt Peanuts," and "Hot House"), Dexter Gordon, Al Haig, Tadd Dameron, Sarah Vaughan, Red Norvo, and Charles Thompson, The Street Beat has a bit of a mixed-bag feel, and given the many Parker collections that cover this same period, it can't be deemed essential, but it does document a pivotal moment in both the history of Parker and modern jazz in general.
