Although pianist Per Henrik Wallin is the leader of this European trio, altoist Lars-Göran Ulander often dominates and takes solo honors. The music is mostly pretty free form (with the final two selections being completely free improvisations) and generally quite intense and passionate. Most interesting are the segments where Ulander (who sometimes recalls Jimmy Lyons) plays unaccompanied, including the opening part of "E.V." The interplay between Ulander and drummer Peter Olsen is particularly tight while Wallin is far from overshadowed when he is in the spotlight. His piano playing alternates between waves of sound a bit like Cecil Taylor and more lyrical moments. Overall the music, taken from a live date apiece in 1975 and 1977, is quite stimulating, mostly high-energy and always avant-garde.
