Buffalo, New York-based quintet By Autumn's End play a brand of screamo informed simultaneously by hardcore, post-punk, and progressive tendencies. Unlike many of their metal-minded contemporaries, By Autumn's End has an off-kilter, mercurial edge given to shifting meters and other flourishes. But that's not to say By Autumn's End are soft art-boys. On the contrary, their sonic assault crushes alongside the heaviest of them, kicking up a primal ruckus fierce enough to curdle blood. Their full-length debut, THE SERPENT, THE STATE, THE SLAUGHTER, THE PLAGUE, fell like a cudgel on the screamo community in 2007.
