AllMusic Review by

Released by Sequel in 2000 with somewhat bizarre animated artwork, The Second Time Around is a decent singles-oriented Shalamar compilation. It covers most of the group's lifespan, from 1977's "Uptown Festival" through 1987's "Games" and "Circumstantial Evidence." The label provides a major service by specifying the version of each inclusion on the back of the packaging. The 12" mixes are favored heavily on the first disc, which features the title song, "Take That to the Bank," "Right in the Socket," and "There It Is." While it contains 30 songs, it's not thorough -- 1983's "Over and Over," one of the group's best singles, is among the missing.
