AllMusic Review by

Pain Of Salvation can expertly deliver their melodically dense sound in a live concert setting, as evidenced by THE SECOND DEATH OF PAIN OF SALVATION. Melding nu-metal, orchestral, and more traditional progressive elements has long been a trademark of the Swedish-based band. Cherry-picking from their catalog, Daniel Gildenlow and company showcase heady conceptual pieces, as well as sections of somber suites that stand alone as songs unto themselves. Though not known for cover songs, PoS also offer their own haunting take on the Leonard Cohen classic "Hallelujah." THE SECOND DEATH OF is also available in a box set as the audible companion to the group's DVD documentary, ENDING THEMES.
