AllMusic Review by

Like most Time Life releases, this one has some tracks you might expect and some tracks that are delightful surprises, and the end result is a varied and well-sequenced set that shows that some care went into the selection. Featured are Chuck Berry's gritty (particularly for pop radio in 1959) "Back in the U.S.A.," Link Wray's rumbling instrumental "Raw-Hide," Preston Epps' pre-surf-era "Bongo Rock," Jimmie Rodgers' "Honeycomb," and the Rock-A-Teens' amazingly adaptable "Woo-Hoo."
