After years of appearing almost exclusively as a piano soloist, Tatum formed a trio in the mid-'40s with guitarist Tiny Grimes and bassist Slam Stewart. Fortunately Grimes and Stewart were quick thinkers and witty improvisers, for they needed all of their creativity in order to keep up with the astounding pianist. All 11 of the performances (including one alternate take) they cut for World Broadcasting transcriptions are included on this rather brief (under 27 minutes) LP. Their magical interplay was consistently memorable.
