AllMusic Review by

No doubt trying to cash in on the Bacharach craze of the late '90s, Hip-O released this compilation of the Brill Building vet's celluloid themes. Taken from soundtracks cut from 1962's The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance to 1988's Arthur 2: On the Rocks, the 17 tracks include original hit versions (Dusty Springfield's "The Look of Love" and Tom Jones' "What's New Pussycat?"), Bacharach's instrumental interpretations ("Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head," "A House Is Not a Home"), and then some original performances that thankfully never really plagued the airwaves ("Love Is My Decision," "Finder of Lost Loves"). And while more blasé fare comes courtesy of Marvin Hamlisch, Shawn Phillips, and Richard Chamberlain, obscure highlights like Trini Lopez's mod-pop "Made in Paris" and Gladys Knight's "Seconds" keep things from going permanently cold. A respectable record, but fairly far removed from the ideal overview that Rhino's incredible three-disc The Look of Love is.
