AllMusic Review by

The Pop Years, a series from the U.K.-based Demon label, continues into the ‘80s with a two-disc set covering 1980 and 1981. As usual, each inclusion reached the Top 40 of the U.K. pop chart, and Demon has a healthy disregard for what is and what is not perceived as cool -- there’s no other way to explain the presence of John Foxx (“Underpass”) and REO Speedwagon (“Keep on Loving You”) on the same set. So, there’s a true reflection of popular music from each year in question, and there is no emphasis on any one genre. Among the Top Ten hits included here are Earth, Wind & Fire's “Let’s Groove,” Sugar Minott's “Good Thing Going,” Adam & the Ants' “Kings of the Wild Frontier,” and Altered Images' “Happy Birthday.”
