Many compilations and anthologies suffer from excess and poor sequencing. Casual fans and purists should be able to find common ground on this fine collection. Classics such as "Urgent," "Hot Blooded," and "Feels Like the First Time" share the spotlight with mellower mid-'80s material like "I Want to Know What Love Is" and "Say You Will." The real treat here is the inclusion of singer Lou Gramm's stellar 1987 single "Midnight Blue," a highway classic, and his only hit outside of the group. While not as all encompassing as Rhino's superior Jukebox Heroes: The Foreigner Anthology, Warner Music's The Platinum Collection is a comprehensive look at one of rock's most successful arena bands.
