Whenever people think of Scottish music, the first thing that comes to mind is bagpipes, and this CD features accomplished performances from two of Scotland's finest pipers. There's a primal tug at your heart whenever the wailing call of the pipes begins to beckon, and the unaccompanied simplicity of the these traditional tunes will create a powerful stirring of emotion. Angus MacColl's soulful style is a tad more fluid, with his flamboyant approach making him a perennial popular favorite at these piping recitals. Gordon Duncan seems a tad more technically proficient, with his lightning-fast fingering often blowing the listener's mind on the more up-tempo jigs and reels. With such rousing performances and a great mix of standards and modern tunes, this is a fine sampling of the stirring sounds of traditional Scottish music.
