This is a killer little best of by the undersung soulman Brenton Wood, who may be best known for his "Oogum, Boogum," hit, but laid out so much more worth hearing. In fact, it's nearly a crime that there isn't anything out there form his actual album catalog. That said, Wood's diversity is here, from his Sam Cooke remake of "A Change Is Gonna Come," to his wild read of "Psychotic Reaction," to Johnny Mathis' "Runnin' Wild." But the true jewel in this budget compilation is "Gimme a Little Sign," a gritty, greasy, heart puncher that wowed 'em in the aisles every single time. In fact, this cut is so indispensable, it's worth the price of this little baby all on its own.
