Two of the biggest soul acts of the '70s, the O'Jays and the Whispers, continued recording great music into the '80s and '90s, despite the decline of straight-ahead soul (and despite the interference of increasingly pedestrian productions). Capitol's soul label The Right Stuff, in conjunction with soul maven David Nathan, compiled this collection of mostly forgotten sides, with eight tracks from each band that range from 1976 to 1996. There are several hits here from both bands, but most of those reached only the lower levels of the R&B charts. Still, it's a surprisingly solid wrap-up of these two groups' forgotten years. Most of the highlights come from the '80s, including the title track from the O'Jays' 1987 Let Me Touch You to the Whispers' 1983 fiery slow jam "Keep on Lovin' Me."
