Because so much material is absent from The Nice Collection, it hardly ranks as a creditable compilation. Suffering from poor sound quality, the 11 tracks disregard a large part of the Nice's telling career, with "America," "The Thoughts of Emerlist Davjack," and "Rondo" coming off as the heaviest hitters. Tracks such as "Angel of Death" and "Happy Freuds" could have easily been exchanged for more influential works such as "She Belongs to Me" or an excerpt from Five Bridges. Since the Nice had such an abbreviated career, any valuable hits package should include a wider cross-section of music. The Nice Collection may be a tolerable bargain-bin purchase, but it shouldn't be employed as a comprehensive overview of this influential band.
