The Most Intimate Charlie Shavers

Considering his stature, it is surprising that the exciting trumpeter Charlie Shavers did not lead more sessions throughout his career. This set, only his second LP as a leader, is purely mood music with concise and very melodic versions of ten familiar ballads. Shavers, who is backed by a large string orchestra, shows off the prettier side of his tone, but nothing all that stirring occurs.
