Pecola are one of the most threatening bands to come out of Toronto, and this album demonstrates their attitude through what is best described as math punk with a twist of demented blues. Vocalist/bassist Craig Thompson spits out his best Iggy Pop slurs on "Song #3" and "You Left the Fucking Stereo On." As a band, Pecola switches gears at every turn, whether it be the 6/4 time signature of "The Bullets Inside Are Very Hot. Why Do I Feel So Cold?" or the ongoing tempo shifts of "Sugarcane Is Aspartame." As for the twin guitar attack of Jamie Fleming and Zak Hanna, their approach is almost polyrhythmic. "Dad's Dick Is a Mustang" displays this well, as one guitar plays arpeggios while the other plays chords on the first two beats of each measure. Pecola creates music to have a nervous breakdown to, but, in this case, that's a good thing. Plus, they have some of the funniest song titles in the annals of rock history.
