This edition of Park South's Nature Series combines a sound portrait of a meadow with an orchestral backing, or an orchestra with a meadow for backup, depending upon one's point of view. Unfortunately, the idea of combining the soothing sounds of nature and those of an orchestra doesn't really work. The result sounds like a symphony set up in the middle of a field of poppies to challenge the authority of the birds, and in the end each orchestra (the one of people and the one of birds) is constantly distracting to the other. However, one must wonder what kind of sour face the always merry chickadee might have made if actually faced with a wall of bassoons.
