All of the music on this out-of-print double LP from 1973 has since been reissued on CD. Yusef Lateef (on tenor, oboe, flute and argol) is heard throughout in superior form. On eight numbers (including "Goin' Home," "I'm Just a Lucky So and So" and "Ma, He's Makin' Eyes at Me") he leads a quintet with cellist Ron Carter and pianist Hugh Lawson; there are also seven numbers with a nonet including two trumpets and a bassoon, and two short pieces that feature Lateef with a rhythm section, two percussionists and background singers. These often-boppish but sometimes quite adventurous performances are well worth hearing.
