Three white kids with affection for hip-hop, indie rock, and science mix their inspirations on The Manhattan Love Machine. There is a deep bass sound to their music that comes from a love of dub and jungle. Interludes between heavier material are marked by trance-like electronica. Lo-fi, lo-tech beats and sounds of substance mark everything, as if wrung from the last moments of an eight-bit computer. Their success in Chicago won them opening slots for Laika, Sisters of Mercy, the Creatures, and more, based on their self-produced recordings.
