Marvin Etzioni's solo debut is a charming, passionate, and at times spiritual, folk-based record with a quiet edge. With the help of guests such as Benmont Tench of the Heartbreakers, Victoria Williams, the Williams Brothers and former Fairport Convention guitarist Jerry Donahue, and the use of various rootsy instruments, Marvin creates a perfect feel for his contemplative, melancholy tunes. The Mandolin Man is a subtle, timeless work.
